OKLAHOMA CITY (October 27, 2023) – Each year, the Urban League of Greater Oklahoma City (ULOKC) hosts Equal Opportunity Day (EOD), which provides a diverse discussion among corporate and civic leaders about the challenges of achieving equality while honoring local equal opportunity advocates. The 45th Annual EOD Awards Luncheon will be held at the Petroleum Club of Oklahoma City, on November 28, 2023, at 11:30 a.m.
ULOKC will also host a minority supplier business networking reception on Monday, November 27th, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; and a networking session on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, to highlight our work building partnerships with minority supplier businesses and larger businesses and corporations in the Oklahoma City area.
The 2023 theme is “A Conversation with the Under Secretary of Commerce for Minority Business Development Agency, the Honorable Donald R. Cravins, Jr.: Empowering and Growing Minority Businesses” A recent study conducted by Ernst and Young found that the distribution of business ownership in Oklahoma City is not proportional to the City’s racial population distribution. In general, businesses owned by people of color in Oklahoma City (and across benchmarks) have fewer employees and lower sales and revenue than those owned by white individuals.
This year’s EOD will focus on growing supplier diversity. We will also honor local diverse suppliers and celebrate outstanding diverse leaders in the award categories below:
- Equal Opportunity Day Award – KTR Heating & Cooling
- Equal Opportunity Day Award – Cocina De Mino
- Russell M. Perry Award of Excellence – To Be Announced
