The Urban League has partnered with local barbers and African American male therapists to launch a program called “Real Talk, Brother.” The program provides free support to African American males who may be struggling during these challenging and uncertain times.

As a barber, you can become a certified Mental Health Ambassador and receive a stipend by attending a virtual training session with a Licensed Mental Health professional and then referring your clients to the “Real Talk, Brother” program. Your clients can then schedule and attend three 30-minute virtual support sessions with trained African American Therapists to discuss issues such as peer pressure, school stress, anxiety, trauma, and self-esteem.

Barbers will receive a stipend, a plaque certifying them as a Mental Health Ambassador, free social media promotion, and individual or group therapy at no cost, if desired. Clients participating in the program will receive a $20 gift card after each completed counseling session and free supplementary individual counseling if needed.
